You don’t need to trick chickens to stand on eggs. Once they get brooding you can be sure they will find something to sit on, be it their own eggs, other chicken’s eggs, other bird’s eggs, some egg shaped stones, a bunch of kittens or some puppies.
Turkey hens are also pretty good at it, my grandma used them to hatch geese.
Saw a neat video the other night where they stuck another species (I forgot) eggs under their hens. They happily hatched them and cared for the babies even after they got twice the size of the hens.
Chickens will take our jobs!
