shalafi@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something you started doing arbitrarily that's been really positive for you? English7·11 hours agoSame! Got a wicked pair of boots and a new vest from the thrift yesterday. Cut my hair in the mirror, got decked out and my wife’s eye popped. Even my 12-yo was looking at me, uh, funny. Don’t think she knew daddy could dress like that! (She lives with her mom far away. Mostly sees me dressed up in “hiking with a shotgun” chic, not “metrosexual” chic.)
Anyway, I dress up for silly things just because it makes me feel good. Hell, I’ll use any excuse to wear one of my tuxes.
Off to see Superman in that same outfit!

Good. Our first laugh of the day.
My brain can’t handle more than a dozen open tabs. If I need more than 8 or so, I’ll sling some in another browser instance. I honestly don’t know if this is because I’m dumb or smart, but at my last jobs the smarter people always had about 2 dozen tabs open. LOL, no one ever rebooted.

shalafi@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you believe that the people should be able to have guns to protect themselves, or should the police have the sole authority to own and posess guns to protect the people?English133·5 days agoAmerican, white, liberal, redneck gun nut here. If you’re talking about “defund the police”, that’s yet another idiot liberal slogan that misses the mark. The idea is to take police funds and pay for workers who can handle situations police should never have been sent to. Want to kill yourself? Call the cops!
The far right loves cops because cops are on their side, or are perceived to be. To put it bluntly, guns are for shooting marauding black people, not white people. See all the stories about white people being shocked when law enforcement doesn’t go their way? Yeah.
Also, I suspect people who are anti-gun have never had violence inflicted upon them, or cops who are far away, or haven’t had a bear wander in the dog door, or haven’t had an enraged redneck struggling to be polite because they’re visibly armed. In related news, my MAGA neighbor came stomping down here to kick my ass, turned right the fuck around when I went inside for my .45.
I could write all night on the subject, but let me leave it at this: Now is not the fucking time for Americans to disarm themselves. The only reason fascists haven’t run us completely over is that they know there will be a real chance we’ll fucking kill them. Look where the ICE raids are happening, in the places where guns are the most suppressed.
Yes, this all sucks, but it’s where we’re at in America.

Love the ReStore! I live in a Habitat home and volunteered there with my ex as part of the program. Most fun I’ve ever hard in retail!
Went to only one thrift this weekend and they had an original IBM XT, with original monitor, for $200! Got the money in the bank, still unemployed. Still crying over that one. Maybe it’ll still be there when I score a job. Not many people in this town would be interested.
