When I was 19 I bought $100 worth of Bitcoin and then promptly lost the wallet when I became homeless not long later.

I, like a few here, lost my bitcoins.
For me it was 10GBP of bitcoin before I moved back ot NZ so maybe 20 BC - I have no idea what happened to that drive

I mined a bunch of btc back in the day. Used it all to buy drugs off the internet. I regret nothing.
I like to imagine a world where things stayed that simple.

I didn’t mine them, but the Bitcoin I spent on drugs would probably be worth millions today. I don’t really care either. It’s not like I would have had them in the first place if you couldn’t buy drugs with them.
Did the drugs also appreciate in value?
I first became aware of bitcoin while poking around Tor for the first time. It was very, very early days, and the post was from the creator. I read it and thought, ‘There’s no way this is legal, you can just make up a currency.’ Also, being on Tor, I assumed it was a scam. Pennies. I could have bought bitcoin for pennies.
I was once paid 5 BTC to make a simple website for somebody.
I’m glad we all have these stories. Feels marginally less bad when your circumstances are shared.
I was there in the beginning… Mining Bitcoins on my DUAL Radeon HD 5850, mining just enough Bitcoins to finally afford a Netflix voucher worth about $5 on bitcointalk.org.
I also once sold Guild Wars 1 for 5 Bitcoins.
I’d say 5 bitcoins for GW1 is fair market price!
One of my college instructors told me about bitcoin and how you could mine them on your PC back in like 2010. I went home and got as far as downloading the software before I was like… Nah this is never going to take off. I kick myself for that frequently.

Had a buddy way back, he spent some time distro-hopping and fucking around with crypto mining. Wound up with 20btc from the mining, back when that was worth bout 3.50 total. Wiped the hard drive for another project, remembered the crypto wallet later, figured it wasn’t worth trying to recover, and moved on.
I should probably see how he’s doing…

Someone gave me 5$ worth of Bitcoin back in 2013, and I immediately used them to buy a sandwich from his shop.
My niece downloaded “free robux.exe” and I lost 4 btc. This was 2013.
That’s only 2.7 million dollars.
