  • The Orwellian loss of conceptual meaning is palpable here. The right to protest is now “Terrorism”. I’ve never seen people who “love America” so desperately try to justify murdering their own countrymen.

The rhetoric is being dialed up because the deeply unpopular policies of this administration are weighing down its power grab. Usually fascist movements seize power when they are popular, which is no longer the case. Ironically, I think this bizarre rhetoric will weigh them down further: Trump is mush. Steven Miller is a whiny high school bully. Russell Vought is a Christian nationalist who wants to ban porn. Conspiracy theorists and Fox News hosts all. They are forcing the national guard into as many cities as possible to provoke an excuse invoke the insurrection act because that is the only way they can stay in power as more and more lawmakers, politicians, and influencers become exhausted and unable to operate within the conflicting and constructed reality they dictate.

Paradoxically, I fear that as the administration’s positions become more ridiculous, the potential for violence increases as they run out of options for maintaining their hold on power - like a dying star starved of light elements to fuse, or a circus in which the clowns are all given Tommy guns.

  • Patel, speaking to Fox & Friends on Monday, said the FBI had “forensic evidence” of the note, but that it had “since been destroyed.”

I mean, what the hell is this even supposed to mean? The rest of the article is just heresy about “leftist ideology”. They quote the family as stating that he was leftist, but theres zero detail as to how. You’d think if the kid was truly leftist and we had “forensic evidence” of a note, we’d at least have a direct quote?

What evidence? How was the note destroyed? In what manner? Was any of it recoverable at all? What specific leftist ideologies did he subscribe to? What specifically did he not like about Kirk’s politics?

Given the progress of the investigation, and the current “evidence” presented, I am just not confident we will get answers to these questions.

  • It’s really funny watching American corporate power fight federal regulation for decades only to immediately line up behind an authoritarian government to obey in advance the whims of a babbling narcissist who is purposely crashing the economy to satisfy his need for egotistical revenge. If all of our speech is tied up in media companies bought and paid for by corporate interests, or social media tech giants that deliver surveillance data to the government at will with our own tax dollars, how can it possibly even approach being “free”? It cannot, and that is pretty much the goal.

Retaliation just for quoting Kirk, a man who built a media and legal influencing juggernaut on his protected speech, is especially ironic given the great efforts made to develop and spread his ideas.

  • Well put. Marshner is essentially a televangelist - by “preaching the gospel”, she secures her endowment of wealth and immunity from religious prosecution. This system typifies the Trump regime, expanded to other things that people prone to magical thinking worry about - conspiracy theories, vaccines, folk medicine, etc.

It’s effective directly because it gives believers every chance to carry and spread a believable and reassuring lie, and to disregard or attack outsiders who try to inject rationality. Essentially, a cult.

  • The religious are obsessed with this because enforcement of “the nuclear family” offers them a wedge of control into the private lives of others. Marriage and children are under influenceable legislation by the state, which is why these people FREAK out when you mess with those legal institutions with things like marriage equality and abortion.

The ones at the top need the power to stay relevant and wealthy, and the flock eats up the flowery nonsense language about “faith” and “God’s plan.”
