Others predict an apocalypse for websites.8·28 days agoToday a friend told me about how, last night, a Google AI summary led to a huge fight between him and his partner. Turns out the AI summary was 100% wrong. I mean yeah, don’t make important decisions based on an AI summary. But a lot of non-tech folks still have no idea how inaccurate those results can be, and even more just plain don’t care.

Anyone that’s played Witcher 3 should have already known that Ciri was going to be the protagonist in the next game. I can’t wait. Ciri is badass.

This. So much this. Every time I start a new project I’m so glad to have these notes to refer back to.
wrekone@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•Obsidian is now free for work - ObsidianEnglish5·2 months agoDaily notes. I have a template that prompts me to fill out a number details I might otherwise forget.
A wiki of people that helps me remember details about people I meet or have worked with. Makes it much easier to keep in touch and to remember important dates in their lives.
Sortable todo lists, with due date and urgency information. I can add to the lists directly from any other note using a Dataview formula with the Tasks extension.
Career plans. Project plans. Gardening plans. Recipes (there’s an awesome extension that imports recipes from the web).
Any random writing I might want to do, from short stories to rough drafts of letters to stream of consciousness mind spew that I want to review later.
I use the Auto Note Mover and Dataview extensions, along with backlinks and tags, to keep all of my notes organized automatically. I use the Linter extension to make sure things are formatted nicely. When I started using Obsidian, I used the Importer extension to easily pull in all of my existing notes and lists from Evernote and Google Keep.
Honestly, that barely scratches the surface.

We all did. It was a dark time.
The terms “cage free” and “free range” are near meaningless on an industrial scale. The chickens are still packed in as tightly as regulations allow.
As for smaller producers, I don’t know. It sounds like bird flu is about as contagious as is possible.

I love their Desktop Backup, and I’ve got about 20TB backed up with it. But I’m planning to add a significant amount of additional storage on a new machine and I worry that their unlimited plan may not actually be unlimited. I’ve heard good things about their B2 service but the cost would astronomical, way way out of my budget.
edit: Oh, apparently Backblaze Desktop doesn’t support Linux. Well, I’m hosed. Got any suggestions for affordably backing up a significant amount of data on a Linux PC?

Unchecked greed at its finest.

I joke, but seriously, no one gets as rich as the leaders of all these big companies without hurting a lot of innocent people in the process. Never forget, there are no virtuous billionaires.

Everyone trying to call bullshit, but my local discount market is selling eggs for $10.99 a dozen too. Not organic. Probably not even free range. Just the same cheap eggs as usual, but 3x the price.

I love this so much. We use Macs at work but there’s absolutely no reason we couldn’t just use Linux. 60% (guestimated) of the work, across all departments, is done through the browser and the other 40% is software development. I’d much rather have more smart people around than a $2000 locked down laptop.
