Marriage wasn’t important to me, either - I was with my now husband for many years before we tied the knot. I’d never been one for the traditional big wedding, wasn’t sure what difference it would make, etc.

What changed? My Mum died - and in all the times at hospital and then dealing with the funeral etc - I realised just how important being “next of kin” actually is. In so many ways. And while you can cover most of your bases with various legal documents - honestly there’s already a super easy way, that is very well understood all over the world, that achieves this.

And while I wasn’t expecting it to feel any different afterwards, it really did - for both of us. More certainty and just really solid.

Man, I’m with you! A lot of people are commenting that you should just curate your feed - man, that means unsubscribing from news and politics. I mean there are a lot of other countries news I’m interested in seeing. And I already have an app that lets me filter out content based on keywords and my feed is still filled with US content.

The amount of US content is just overwhelming and it’s freaking everywhere. I know I’m not alone in frankly having had enough of it.

Can’t people post this stuff into dedicated US communities?

This guy just needs to let this go! He’s wasting his life on this. Even if he finds it in the next decade - honestly I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Non-American here. This actually goes a long way in helping me to avoid US-centric news and content for the next 4 years. So, there’s that.

I’m not American, but downloaded RedNote (Little Red Book) to see what the fuss was about and it’s been a charming experience. I’m particularly loving the cooking videos!

Very very interesting to see normal Americans and normal Chinese people have discussions together on a social media app. And for them to show each other “slice of life” videos. Probably the first time that this has ever happened?

As an application developer (rather than someone who can/does code operating systems) I was just left open-mouthed …

Looks like they’re delivering “code as content” to get around the rigour of getting an updated driver authorised by MS. I realise they can’t wait too long for driver approval for antivirus releases but surely - surely - you have an ironclad QA process if you’re playing with fire like this.

Man, when we (2 Brits) lived in Sydney a couple of years ago, we unwittingly went camping during a mass cicada hatching. The cicada grubs were coming out of the ground and crawling up everything (tent, chairs, us!) to hatch.

We were 2 hopeless pommies fairly new to the Aussie bush and didn’t know what on earth was going on. Utterly freaked. Coupled with all the other crazy wildlife we encountered (stick insects the size of your forearm, lizard things the size of me!) and it’s amazing we didn’t pack up and leave. And also, I mean, the fact that half of Aussie animals can legitimately kill you.

But we stuck it out and had an awesome time. Cicadas were pretty amazing in the end - left fantastic exoskeletons (a bit like Geiger’s alien) and were deafening.

Completely anecdotal, but looking back I believe I had very mild “long covid” after my first bout - slight brain fog, slight fatigue, etc - but nothing unmanageable. (Also, I couldn’t be sure they were Covid related - I am, after all, getting older!)

However, after I recovered from my second bout of covid, these lingering symptoms completely cleared up. Like my body had a lightbulb moment “oh this is how I reset”.

So this article really makes sense, and hopefully it’s a step to a cure for all those people still suffering.
