Oh man, how has nobody mentioned cholula? I can’t even use other sauces except for siracha.

wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How did we get so casual about conspiracy theories?English1·3 months agoHonestly I think that this isn’t in inherent to the modern world, in earlier ages it “they” was probably attributed to gods and what not. “Why does lightning spark fires in the fields”: “They (the Gods) are probably angry at our insolence”. Fast forward to the present where religion and the supernatural have less hold on human thinking and that type of idea is shifted to a nameless, faceless “they”, orchestrating and manipulating events in secret.
For a fun look at this occurrence, read James Tynion’s fantastic Department of Truth comic that deals with the truth and popular American conspiracy theories.

The better question is, if you do support lgbtq+ people, why the public freakout about mentioning a far reaching tech policy, by one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) tech company in the world, on a tech sub?

wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube removes 'gender identity' from hate speech policyEnglish82·4 months agoSure, if your issue is that it’s okay for corporations to remove protections for hate speech towards marginalized groups, then yes, go get bent. This kind of false equivalence between normalizing hate and ostraciszing progressives for speaking out against oppression is EXACTLY what we’re fighting against. What in the hell is the ‘rhetoric’ do you disagree with? Having empathy for lgbtq+ people? Jesus. If so, this is definitely not the place for you.
wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlto World News@lemmy.world•US prosecutors to seek death penalty for Luigi MangioneEnglish10·4 months agoWow. There’s a huge disparity between the brows on those two. No matter how blurry the first pics are, the thickness of Luigi’s brows would be noticeable. The person in that camera footage definitely doesn’t have thick eyebrows like Luigi :/

I noticed that there seems to be a lot of UK stuff that is explicitly working-class versus American. Interesting to say the least. It seems like, for whatever reason, it’s a little bit more prevalent in the UK. Maybe it’s just the responses I’ve gotten so far, but I have noticed there seem to be a disproportionate amount.

wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Working Class Perspectives in Works of Art and Entertainment?English3·4 months agoHaha, thanks. I’m surprised there’s someone out there that isn’t even familiar with Rent in passing. My ex was a theater major and she looooved Rent, but even I had heard of it before that. I’m not sure I could survive watching the movie again. I think seeing a stage production of Rent would have been awesome though, especially if I knew someone in the play. I DO dig the overall perspective of it, from what I do remember of watching it years ago.

wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlOPto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Working Class Perspectives in Works of Art and Entertainment?English1·4 months agoBilly Elliot is one of those films I’d always meant to watch but never seem to finish when I start. I’ll have to seek it out again sometime soon.
It’s been awhile since I watched Firefly, so I can’t recall the show’s perspective on class, if any. I haven’t seen it in years, so maybe I’ll rewatch it. Although, I liked the show, I didn’t feel as strongly about it’s quality as others commonly do. I wonder if it’s worth a watch for me because of that.
Comic recommends are always welcome, I’ll take a look at Our Members.
Thanks for the suggestions ;)

wolfinthewoods@lemmy.mlto [Migrated, see pinned post] Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•I wish I never drank so much from 17 to 25English5·4 months agoFor me it was getting into counseling to find the underlying cause of my addiction, which was my grief. There’s many ways addiction is percieved in mainstream society, with the biggest focus being on addiction being a “disease”. I’d avoid such thinking since, I believe, it only serves to exacerbate the problem. If you’re told that your addiction is a irreversable illness than you’ll attack the symptoms without getting to the root cause.
Ask yourself why you feel the need to drink to excess, what is it that you feel you are missing in your life? We tend to utilize addiction as a way to cope with uncomfortable realities in our lives. If we can figure out what that uncomfortable truth is, we are better equipped to make better, healthier decisions on how we chose to cope with that feeling.
I recommend checking out any of Lance Dodes’ books on addiction, which focus on a evidence-based approach to confronting and coping with addiction. Good luck. Feel free to DM me if you ever have any more questions ;)
It truly is fantastic. I put it on everything, pizza, breakfast burritos, tacos…whatever. I snag packets of it for free at the local store because I’m a broke ass lol.
