Ive been using lemmy close to two years now.English4·3 months agoLeft reddit during the api snapfu as well, been mainly a lurker with a few comments, but I’m definitely glad I made the shift, everything feels better here for a social environment. The only thing I go back to reddit for is the porn haha. (Which lemmynsfw instance is slowly catching up on)
Vox@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Millions of people’s DNA up for sale as 23andMe goes bankrupt8·4 months agoThey’re saying if you were the only holdup it doesn’t matter. If enough of your semi-close relatives submitted their DNA, yours can be extrapolated reasonably accurately from that.
It’s only a matter of time. They don’t display any ads on nsfw subreddits currently, so management likely sees these subreddits as nothing but a cost, especially because they tend to be heavily image/gif based. what they are unsure about, which is why they haven’t been purged yet, is likely how much traffic to non-nsfw subreddits nsfw subreddits drive. I think we are likely to see purges of them when/if ad money dips or plateaus and they turn their eye to minimizing operating costs.

Hmm, maybe they reverted? Everything still seems accessible right now
Edit: the ones on the screen seem down but there are definitely still some nsfw subreddits still open. Either the purgening has just begun or those fit some kind of criteria for a ban.
Also had a kitten i rescued that did exactly this haha
I think the point of their argument, not that I agree with them, is that they see any abortion as straight up murder, so in their mind child rape is an acceptable consequence because the alternative is child murder.
That’s why this argument is so pervasive in keeping the masses separated, it’s a choice between the left’s bodily autonomy and the religious right’s believing life starts at conception. Neither side is willing to concede an inch to the other because it’s not an argument where you can compromise.
Vox@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your country's Christmas dish and what is your favorite part of it?3·7 months agoMy grandmother is Venezuelan, I used to love Hallacas every christmas, sadly it’s been years since we’ve made them on Christmas.
My wife’s traditional christmas food is chili-o dip, something her mother made every year, slightly harder to make since the seasoning blend is no longer made but I stocked up on it a long time ago.
Other than that we make zucchini bread, black walnut icebox cookies and my mom makes some actually pretty good fruit cake. Oh and traditional Czech fruit kolaches!

Vox@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Republicans ask Supreme Court to block 40,000 Arizonans from voting in November161·11 months agoHe is quite literally saying that he always votes for democrats in the general election, but votes in the republican primary, which is not a real vote for office but a vote to the RNC that signals who to run in the general.
We aren’t all fortunate enough to live in a Democrat or battleground district/state, so sometimes the best you can do is try to nudge the RNC to be less crazy while still voting blue in the generals.
Is this a new version of “slamming” someone?
