What this does is makes any competition against any established Internet companies impossible for anyone who can’t afford said army of lawyers. That’s why they’re the main driving force behind it. Any new social media startup will swiftly find themselves buried in litigation over the content people post on their site.

Trudeau got in front of the cameras today and spelled this out. Our government chose to take this action, and Canada is having an entirely reasonable response. Once the tarrifs end, we can go back to where we were, but in the meantime, Americans need to learn how much they rely on Canadian trade and need to understand that this is entirely our government’s fault.

True, but it’s not something you should completely shy away from, either.

Money talks, but wealth whispers.

Musk bought it because he’s a dumbass.

Because he thinks he’s clever and wants everybody to think he’s clever (also because he was mad that Twitter kept banning his buddies for being fascists), he hatched a plan to send Twitter a formal offer to buy it for way more than it was worth. Musk thought that Twitter was owned by a bunch of left-wing ideologues and were using the site as their own personal microphone (sound familiar?), so when they inevitably turn down his offer, he could go “Aha! Gotcha, you fuckin’ Marxists!” and everyone would clap and call him smart.

But Twitter was not owned by a bunch of left-wingers. It was owned by businessmen. Musk’s buddies were getting banned because it’s not good business to have an advert for Disneyland next to a racist/anti-Semetic tweet, not because of ideology. And when those businessmen saw that Musk was offering to buy Twitter for several times what it was worth, they jumped on the offer, then sued Musk when he tried to back out.

Hilariously, Musk agreed to buy Twitter as soon as the discovery process started. I’d bet money that his phone was a black hole of cringe/illegal activity and he wanted to keep it from going public.

Musk didn’t want to buy Twitter, and he doesn’t want to destroy Twitter; it’s just a side effect of using it to stroke his ego.

I mean, the likes of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos could end world hunger with a snap of their bony fingers, and they’re not doing it, despite the fact that they would still be wealthy beyond comprehension if they did.

We’re asking them to do the bare minimum and utilize their wealth in a responsible manner, and they’re not even doing that much.

We’re not against the idea of working hard and becoming rich for it. We’re against the idea of becoming rich by exploiting the literal lives of those you step on. And that seems to be almost the exclusive way to become rich in this country. It’s sickening.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

I don’t care if you make money. I don’t care if you make a lot of money. I care when you pull out all the stops in order to make ALL OF THE MONEY, FOREVER, without any regard for what you destroy, or who you hurt or even kill in order to get it.

Their majority in the House is historically slim: they can afford to lose only a single vote. Something that is this obviously terrible for the economy will have some trouble there.

As someone who grew up in a conservative household in a deep red state, I think that part of it is that a lot of people are letting Lizard Brain dictate their response to transgender people.

Let me give you a personal example. A while back, I went to a social dance, and there was a trans woman there. Before the dance starts proper, the couple that runs it will teach a dance lesson, and we rotate partners while that’s going on. Eventually, I was rotated into being her partner. For some background, she was obviously early on in her transition; she still looked like a dude in a dress, she didn’t quite have the appearance down yet. But she gets huge props for not only having the bravery to go out as herself, but doing it in fucking Arkansas.

So I rotate over to her, and it dawns on me that she’s trans. In my head, Lizard Brain immediately starts screaming. “WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?! THIS PERSON IS OBVIOUSLY A DUDE IN A DRESS, HE MUST BE UP TO SOMETHING IF HE’S DRESSING AS SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN WHAT HE IS! RABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLERABBLE”

Keep in mind, where I grew up, you just didn’t see trans people, and even now, it still tickles that primal part of my brain that was trained to be uncomfortable around people who aren’t white and straight.

The difference between me and many of the people I grew up around is that I recognize that it’s happening and try to tone Lizard Brain out when it starts screaming. A lot of other people listen to it and don’t care that the person that it’s screaming about is exactly that: a person.

I wouldn’t either, because far too much is at stake, but anyone who takes our polling at face value is a fool.

I’m not worried about who’s going to win, I’m worried about the ratfuckery that is going to happen to try to swing the result.

I’m actually surprised this is the first time I’ve heard this argument, because there’s a lot of parents who don’t necessarily object to teaching the Bible in school, but are concerned that the way it’s being taught in school differs from how it’s taught at home. A Catholic would naturally have a problem with Protestant teachings in school, not to mention all of the different Protestant denominations.

I think, ultimately, that denominational infighting is what’s going to sink this.

When I was in college, I found a hand-bound report from the Department of the Treasury, written in 1939, about the financial situation in Nanking during the Japanese occupation. I was writing a report about the Rape of Nanking for a history class, and I stumbled upon it while searching the university library.

I was shocked that it wasn’t in their archives, and even more shocked that they let me check it out.

I’ve tried this. They don’t listen; it just goes in one ear and out the other, and that’s assuming you’re on good terms with the person you’re talking to. Otherwise, they just get very angry that you’re attacking their worldview.

The long and short is that these people have been lied to virtually non-stop for the past 40 years, and the first step is depriving them of their disinformation stream. From there, it’s a slow process that could take years, and that process is reset if they go back to listening to lies on Fox News or on Facebook/Twitter.

I feel like there is a difference between voting for someone and voting against someone.

I don’t like how noted war criminal amd possible lizard person Dick Cheney endorsed Harris, but Cheney has never said, “I like what Harris is going to do”; instead, he tried to frame it as a vote against Trump because…well, it’s Trump.

And of course, right-wingers don’t have any capability for self-reflection, because the proper response to fucking Dick Cheney calling you evil is to look in the mirror and ask yourself some hard questions.
