I have an uncommon timeline. I come from a country where English isn’t the primary/national language, but a majority of the population can speak/write it. My parents had the foresight to teach us siblings English first so it would be more natural to us and therefore give us an advantage in our future careers. So I technically learned English first before the local/native language. But because I grew up in my country and only being exposed to American English through movies/tv, my English isn’t exactly “native” and you can pick up within a minute of speaking with me that I’m not a native speaker. But I’m always told that I don’t have the typical accent people from my home country have when speaking English and mine is more neutral.

edric@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Am I weird for avoiding flying on prop planes, and only fly on jets?1·1 month agoNot sure if I remember right, and I’m happy to be corrected, but isn’t the stats for plane crashes/accidents skewed by the smaller prop planes? When I see the typical conversation that flying is safer than driving etc., and then one side points to the numbers for plane accidents, the counter to it is that most of those accidents aren’t the big commercial planes most people fly on, rather the smaller aircraft.
They’re not JUST for killing people and/or sport
I’m trying to think of other use-cases. Do you mean something like mass culling of wild hogs? That’s the only thing I can think of that isn’t killing people or sport.

There are usually also sleeping rooms with recliners you can use.

edric@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If all meat was banned except for insects, would you eat insects?3·1 month agoThrowing in an entire stick of butter and a generous dash of salt and garlic will already get you halfway there. I read somewhere that the reason you can’t quite get the same taste of a restaurant dish when doing it at home is because of the absurd amount of butter and salt they use.
It’s actually easier to switch over if you’re using a specific app just for family chats. Imagine trying to convince them to switch if they used telegram to communicate with everyone else as well. I’d say take the chance and switch over to Signal while you still can. I moved my family over from viber to signal a long time ago and the transition wasn’t as hard as I expected.

It was just a couple days when I noticed a guy outside walking around the property with his phone on a long pole taking pictures around the house and peeking over the fence into the backyard. I get that they need to survey the house, but it feels really violating for some rando to turn up in an unmarked vehicle and start walking around your house taking videos and pictures without even notifying you first. A courtesy knock and quick explanation would’ve been appreciated.
Now they can do it without you knowing at all.

It’s definitely a taste that you need to acquire if you didn’t grow up with it. Did you just eat it as is though? It’s usually best as an ingredient for soups and sauces.
