I worked as an associate for a public accounting firm that does not ever advertise itself, because we specialized serving ultra wealthy individuals and you could only engage us if you knew of us through such circles.
One day, our office got a call from the personal assistant to someone very wealthy who is known for abusing ketamine, asking for an engagement on a very unusual and complex tax situation. A call was set up to discuss the scope of the engagement, because the partners have always been very particular about what clients they will take on, because really wealthy individuals are often very unpleasant, stressful, & frustrating to work with.
Apparently during the call the assistant was patronizing, like we should feel flattered that we were chosen by m’lord, and demanded non-negotiable terms that we would conduct our work exactly as told with no questions asked. They had even sent their own engagement letter for us to sign with them ahead of the call, and it was completely absurd.
The partners patiently explained that is not possible, as that is not how this type of professional relationship works, and declined the engagement.
The assistant was losing their mind, shocked we would turn such an opportunity down. They offered even more money and even some compromise, but the way they initiated the interaction set the tone to expect throughout the professional relationship.
I was very impressed by the partners in the sense that I knew they were incredibly greedy people, but they are so fucking intelligent and had such a great instinct to avoid clients that were going to end up costing way more money than they brought in, because us associates would absolutely refuse to deal with bullshit because it was already a super stressful job, and we were way too talented and incredibly expensive to replace if we walked off.
The self restraint must have been legendary, and exactly the right call, because all the professionals that do end up accepting end up getting embroiled in costly lawsuits and getting thrown under the bus.
Anyway, I hated that job and I wish I that quit sooner than I did. I got such bad burnout, I developed PTSD and now I prefer just living like a hobo rather than go back out there.
PS: Fuck capitalism and fuck Amazon. I refuse to buy anything from them ever again. Cancelled my credit card and told them to go fuck themselves. Fascists.
Please don’t make the mistakes we did.
Do not believe the promises of your employers-- slack off and claw back your time and energy as much as you possibly can.
I hold nothing but compassion and solidarity for those who follow.
I want things to be easier for them, not as hard or harder than they were for us.
Story:
Just had a really painful conversation with my Boomer in-laws. They refuse to see acknowledge how bad things are for us and blame us for our failure to thrive like they got to, after receiving a six-figure cash injection back in the 80s from their parents, which is all gone now with their frivolous spending.
Strongly propelled by the power of cat farts.
What country you even from, that you do not have your own racism problems to deal with?
Start at home.
We got plenty of our own problems, best to leave it to Japan to figure out their own.
Japanese people have a right to ask questions about issues they are concerned about.
Asking whether or not you have actively participated in crimes against humanity is a reasonable question to ask, and if you do not want to answer it, then you can just go elsewhere.
If you go into someone else’s house, you need to be respectful of their space.
Many Chinese and Indian tourists regularly trample the alpine flower fields at Mt. Rainier National Park for selfies or just as a shortcut when they get tired of walking on the hiking paths.
When confronted, instead of being apologetic, they get defensive and diminish the impact of their actions by demeaning American culture and spaces.
“It’s just some flowers. They’ll grow back!”
Yeah, maybe. But that will take eighty years and it may not even happen due to climate change.
These kind of behaviors are what sours locals against tourism, especially when it is consistent across a cultural tourist groups.
We all need to do better when visiting each other’s spaces, and that starts by owning our cultural shortfalls and poor behavior, with the goal of personally improving our own.
Ironically, I’ve never heard any complaints about Japanese tourists, as they often arrived well-educated about local customs and behave respectfully.
Ironic how you lack empathy and compassion for others, while demanding it from others when it comes to you and your problems.

I think the reason why Luigi is considered a saint is because he took one for the team, sparing the masses from police violence.
It’s not 4/10.
Most Americans simply did not bother to vote. Trumpers are a minority, it’s just that their hatefulness is artificially amplified by Russian bots.

Not bitter and unhappy enough to be part of the 1%.
I did write an entire college textbook about statistics, so yes! I know what an outlier is.
From a very kind place in my heart, I am going to encourage you to seek therapy because the points you are making are deeply rooted in emotions, and are highly subjective based on your thoughts-- that is, your points are not facts, but merely your own opinions.
No shame in therapy! I enjoy my own time in therapy and I found it very helpful in helping me challenge my own perspectives to a healthier place.
You guys still use Windows and Macs, lol?
Native Americans and other indigenous groups do not subscribe to exploiting the masses and ruining the environment.
Discounting these groups, and people working hard to protect the planet as simply “outliers” is disingenuous.
Saying that all humans are cancer or corrupted is basically emotional immaturity-- it’s a very childlike world view that chooses to ignore reality.
Humans are animals, neither good or bad. Their actions may be helpful or harmful, but that is a choice each every single person makes.
And if you actually bothered to look, you’d find that most people just want to live a peaceful and quiet life.
