Well, it wasn’t really the failed terrorist that caused this. He was just the excuse that a security theatre based agency used. The real cause was a desire to increase funding by making up bullshit rules that don’t really help anything except the bottom line of a few companies.

Advertisements are an attack to manipulate me and change my behaviour. I don’t tolerate them at all. They also ruin the product, because it eventually becomes more important to cater to the advertisers than the users.

If Youtube went back to how it was originally (no ads, downloadable videos, creator-controlled, etc), I, and many others, would happily pay them even if we could get the content for free (see Patreon, or GoFundMe, or PornHub, or Imgur, or Reddit, or many other sites as examples).

I like supporting my creators. I don’t pirate music, because Bandcamp is a thing, and I don’t pirate video games because GoG is a thing. I also subscribe to Patreon and the like.

What I don’t like is giving my money to shitty companies that try to tell me how I am allowed to manage/retain/consume that media.

Not usually. I don’t typically look too much at the instances I’m interacting on to know if they care about reports or not.

I generally tag people who are being shitty. It’s totally fine if they disagree with me about things, or downvote me or whatever. But if they just insult others, or openly lie/mislead, or yell at others without bringing an actual argument, then they start getting tags. After enough tags, they get blocked.

But it’s never enforced. I get a lot of spam from US companies that don’t have working unsubscribe mechanisms, and I report it all the time, but nothing is ever done about it.

It’s always been super spotty for me. Sometimes it doesn’t work for a few hours, sometimes for a few days. It usually ends up working again after a bit. I ended up moving to mostly using yt-dlp instead, as it’s more consistent. I don’t know of a more reliable phone-option tho :(

I use LUKS and backup to a usb-drive that I have at home. I rsync those backups to my work once a week. Not everyone can backup to their office, but as others have said, backing up to a friend/family member’s house is doable. The nice thing about rsync is that you can limit the bandwidth, so that even though it takes longer, it doesn’t saturate their internet connection.

I’ve known plenty of them. They sign up specifically because they want to do this job. Rember the dumb bullies from school? Imagine what happens when they grow up.

For a lot of people, taking a day off work, to spend hours in line at a polling booth, while voter intimidation is kind of allowed, is a lot of effort. Especially when you factor in that they need to spend time researching the candidates and issues they’ll be voting on. I’ve lived in places where even getting registered was a huge pain, and took a lot of time. Where I currently live, voting is super easy, and I appreciate that, and I think it’s less of an excuse. But for a lot of people, it does take a lot of effort, and I find not voting in those circumstances more understandable.
