  • People who are smart in one or two domains often overestimate how smart they are in other domains. They develop a mental model, confirm it quickly, and never re-asses it.

The issue with AI, is we’re probably hitting our first real S curve with the current technology’s performance but a lot of people who bet big are only see the exponential part and assuming there won’t be a level off, or that the level of is far away.

There is no Moore’s law for AI.

    1. Machine code is less portable, as new CPU optimizations and instructions are released, its easier to update a compiler to integrate those in its optimizations than regenerate and retest all of your code. Also, if you need to target different OSs, like windows vs MacOs vs Linux its easier to make portable code in something higher level like python or java.

    2. Static analysis to check for things like memory leaks or security vulnerabilities like sql injections are likely easier to do on human readable code rather than assembly.

    3. Its easier for a human to go in an tweak code that is written in human readable language rather than assembly.

  • So Trump is not acting based on goals he has for the US, he is acting on goals for the global oligarchy, doesn’t matter if you’re a Canadian or US billionaire he wants you to be able to continue exploiting.

If putting Canada under the jurisdiction of a more compliant country like the US makes that easier great, if instead the conservative parties in Canada can be propped up great. You have plenty of MAGAs in Canada, They’re not just in the US, so we all could do some house cleaning. The US is just the cautionary tale.

  • No matter what kind of company you are, you have an obligation to follow the laws of whatever jurisdictions you’re doing business in.

Also, there’s actually a lot of leeway in regards to doing your fiduciary duty to your shareholders. You’re not obligated to maximize short term profits at the expense of long term (ie by retaining skilled employees). That’s usually just a shitty board trying to suck as much money out of a company as possible and a CEO who doesn’t want to get fired by the board.

I mean the whole metaverse thing was a long term play to capture a future market, which involved a lot of RnD money they just decided to light it on fire instead of making a useful product.
