It doesn’t take a crazy build for plex but if you ever need transcoding the pi can’t do it. My most recent iteration was ~$1300 but the price was mostly storage.

These kits offer a safer diy experience than just throwing a 3d printed Glock clone together and hoping it works. Plenty of people have also built AR15 variants from “80% lowers” which require some diy milling and assembly. Having safe and tested diy options is likely a good thing for overall safety.

Typically (in US, at least) that means counter clockwise in summer and clockwise low speed in winter.
Also as to clothes linen layers are fantastic in heat if available.
