Yeah I grew up without a kettle and just lived with shitty badly heated water. Got myself a kettle after moving out and improved my tea experience greatly.

I got my parents a kettle though because my mom, especially, drinks about 10 cups of hot water a day, but she hates the kettle and won’t use it. I do not understand.

Microwave can take 2-3 minutes depending on how hot you like it and how shitty your microwave is. They also tend to not heat evenly.

A good kettle might also take about 3 mins, though some can take up to 5 or 6, but you’re guaranteed properly heated water.

I’m embarrassed that I’ve never even thought of attempting this… Do all microwaves have that option?

I used it on w10 for the snipping tool and it still works on w11.

The Blackfoot nation on which Maslow based his hierarchy of needs would actually have a celebration each year where they’d give everything they’d amassed away.

The actual basis for the “hierarchy” of needs is essentially that a community takes care of each other so that all needs are met, and this is found not just in Blackfoot but along the majority of indigenous cultures. (I write in quotes because it was never really a hierarchy, it was more of a cyclical chain of getting needs met)

There’s a really good read on what inspired the Hierarchy of Needs here. Most of the changes that Maslow made to his findings were actually due to him wanting to make it more palatable for his individualistic colonial audience.

I’m Canadian. I don’t mind accepting American refugees as long as we also learn to accept refugees from other countries and value them all equally, but our current government isn’t doing that.

Why would you assume that every single (non American) immigrant that comes here would want to change the way Canada is run? Considering the vast majority come here because they like the way it’s run. This is such a wild take.

I waste my time on a website I found years ago on r/beermoney that pays pennies for installing and playing shitty games. Most of them are the garbage match 3 or dominoes or whatever. I figured out most of them still pay out even with my ad blocker on so I just dissociate with that instead of doom scrolling sometimes.

It’s not the greatest thing ever and I know it’s bad for privacy and capitalism and for many other reasons, but I’ve made like $600 on it in the last 3 years so that’s been cool.

In Canada we have a machine at customs that takes your picture when you come into the country. This isn’t optional. I take the opportunity to make the absolute most ridiculous face I can every time and it brings me copious amount of joy. It then prints out a little slip that I give to the customs person at the gate who is usually chatting and doesn’t even look at it. I imagine those slips go somewhere, though I couldn’t really care less where.

This is a bit different than what I think you were asking but when I was a kid my dad would lift me up by my ears as a fun game. He’d essentially hold me by my head and lift.

When I was around 18, I went to play this game with a kid, and then I said what my dad always said before he’d lift me up by my ears: “okay, but you have to hold on to my arms for safety!”

Sounds silly but Enema of the State (Blink 182) also causes me to have a strong emotional reaction mostly because of Adam’s Song but it’s also just one of my favourite albums of all time so it brings up lots of emotions, good and bad.

I’m on vacation and I stepped on a red anthill, and by stepped on I mean I sat on a ledge with my foot hanging over the anthill for about 10 minutes before stepping down onto it.

Stuck my foot in the pool to try to get rid of them only to ruin my only pair of pants and walking shoes I had for 3 days before we could do laundry/get the shoe dry. Also they just do not sell afterbite where I am so I’ve been trying different shitty creams that haven’t done much for the ~15 ant bites I have on my leg.

Also this was a few days after I forgot one of our travelling phones on a bus and it was not recovered.

Also, it was my only pair of pants because I had ruined my other pair of pants when I slipped and fell into a puddle.
