The key part here is that (at least initially…) they won’t put any existing subreddits behind a paywall. So users’ habits won’t really be interrupted.

I’ve been through tech layoffs. Random people are axed and people who thought about leaving anyways stay. This is a much better solution where those who considered leaving anyways can take them up on the offer.

I guess I could wait to see what the Pixel 10 has in store but then again - why get a Pixel when you are not going to use what is Pixel about it? I’m in Europe so I don’t get all the smart features of the Pixel - I just get vanilla Android with worse hardware than the competitors. But a nice camera which I like. Haven’t tried the Galaxy camera app in a while!
designated_fridge@lemmy.worldto Android@lemdro.id•Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, S25+ and S25 hands-on reviewEnglish4·6 months agoI’m on a Pixel 7 Pro and was considering moving to S25 Ultra this year but it’s really hard to understand whether it’s a good phone when all impressions are about how similar it is to last year’s model…
And last year’s model was very similar to the model released the year before that.
So essentially it’s not much of an upgrade if the S25 Ultra at large is similar to the S23 Ultra which was available at the time I got my P7P…

The communities I frequent here (with very active reddit counterparts) have like a submission every few days. Just check !football@lemmy.world for example.
I’m on Pixel 7 Pro and after this winter (dry hands) I’m leaning towards iPhone. I’m so sick of failing the fingerprint scanner 3-4 times before having to resort to the pin code.
FaceID worked so well on the Pixel 4 XL - why isn’t any Android manufacturer picking it up??
I was close to it. I’m an advocate for paying for services I use. We’re way too used to getting everything for free and we should be willing to pay for services we appreciate.
Which made me realise that Facebook especially I don’t appreciate. So I quit instead. It had value to me once but those times are long gone.

Spotify was the same. Turned a profit the first quarter after shifting the focus towards profitability.
designated_fridge@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Reddit wants to raise $748M with IPO, sets value at $6.4BEnglish6·1 year agoI’ve never seen the view of an IPO so heavily affected by bias. Superusers hate Reddit but so what - what matters is whether soccer moms are scrolling and being shown ads. No one cares that the most costly users are unsatisfied. You and me both are nothing to investors.
Is there some objective analysis of this IPO? All I’m seeing is “I’m a superuser who spent a lot of time on Reddit in 2007 and it was far superior back then. The stock will tank.”
