cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.deto Games@lemmy.world•Romero Games reportedly met with Microsoft just a day before the publisher pulled funding for the studio, and there was 'no mention' of the decision that put over 100 people out of workEnglish45·16 hours agoI get a feeling MS doesn’t want to be in the game production/publishing space anymore. They see bigger growth opportunities elsewhere. I personally believe that it’s a big mistake and the ai bubble will cost them dearly, but chasing very short term profitability has never hurt an executive.

This looks very stressful, I don’t think I could finish a whole ride with one of these.

cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Robotaxi Drops Off Passengers in Middle of Intersection… Handpicked Riders Say the “Performance Was Great”English47·14 days agoI wonder how long the facade will hold. They can’t restrict the service to pro-Tesla influencers forever and the safety guys will have to go eventually. How long before weird or dangerous incidents start to happen? Days, weeks? It won’t take months, of that I am certain.

cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft accidentally swapped Windows 11’s startup sound with Vista’sEnglish724·22 days agoI read through these and it’s 80% AI crap that no one asked for. New features? Recall and copilot trash. Bugs? Problems with Recall and copilot. I’m so glad I switched to Linux some months ago. If Microsoft doesn’t see reason soon, they might just kill windows.

cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@beehaw.org•Is Google about to destroy the web? Google says a new AI tool on its search engine will rejuvenate the internet. Others predict an apocalypse for websites.15·24 days agoI agree with the above but would like to add that the results are hilariously bad and error-prone. I got results for a simple query about public holidays that were so wrong it was unusable. Once people get to experience the abysmal AI search regularly, they will just stop using it. Whether Google quietly kills it quick enough before people start using alternatives is the billion dollar question.

cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•The Case for Software Craftsmanship in the Era of Vibes — Zed's BlogEnglish172·25 days agoTo me it’s funny that a case even needs to be made. I’ve reviewd enough output of AI agents to confidently dismiss it as largely trash. Given enough time, this hype will blow over and LLMs will be another useful but not revolutionary tool for programmers. It won’t even come close to replacing humans and it will require skilled developers to be used efficiently. Software craftsmanship is as valuable as it’s ever been.
