I scan over the descriptions to check for irregularities or significant identifiers. So your yellow lake would be noteworthy to me or if a person is described with long hair. I don’t mentally imagine a long hair person, but I try to remember it, so if later somebody sees a long haired person in the distance I know which character is referenced.
And yes if I don’t recognise anything noteworthy, I don’t make a mental note, it’s just a normal lake, nothing important to remember.
But that isn’t always working out for me. In Neverwhere the Marquis de Carabas is described as being pitch black. Which I fully didn’t get and so was wondering why all the fan art made him so black that you can’t recognise features. Because that was how he was described and I missed that important fact.
I couldn’t find reviews. What I did find was a 5 star based rating system which is not the same thing at all. With steam reviews the text is more relevant to me than if they did or did not recommend the game.
To be honest, the games are too old gameplay wise for me to enjoy as games, but the story? Its great
I don’t think so, because If I remember correctly:
When Bungie was bought by Sony, they specifically included in the contract that they get to make a Marathon game if Destiny 2 reaches certain goals. So they aimed for a marathon game for a long time and specifically included that in the negotiations. Beats me why they would do such a poor multiplayer take on the SINGLEPLAYER franchise that is fondly remembered by fans.
Gemma is wrong. Or at least I have never heard it as one combined word. As the examples themselves show, it is normally used as adjective+noun. And while you can combine it, I have never seen that till now.
And to OPs question: I don’t know any such word in the German language. It might be a regional thing or it might just be something Vonnegut invented himself.
Thanks for the post, I always enjoy reading about people finding the real life inspirations of stories. And your pictures definitely invoked memories of Arcadia Bay bubbling up again. =D
As you showed with your examples, Yasuke isn’t the (edit: only) problem. For the “Gamers”, Ubisoft and especially that the professor was a woman played a much bigger part. I’m pretty convinced if Joe Rogan made a toxic masculinity-enriched game about Yasuke, they wouldn’t have so much of a problem.
From Wikipedia:
International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day in some countries and often referred to as May Day, is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and occurs every year on 1 May, or the first Monday in May.
[…]
The 1 May date was chosen by the American Federation of Labor to commemorate a general strike in the United States, which had begun on 1 May 1886 and culminated in the Haymarket affair four days later.
Good thing is, you won’t experience that, so that’s somebody else’s problem.
Let me see, I once saw a wonderful comic about that…
Ah, found it:
First that, but second: what kind of wealth do they have? According to the article they are real estate investors… I don’t really see them moving their buildings or the land outside of the UK. So nothing of value is lost, the wealth is still inside the UK. Only thing that left are two parasites that extracted from society without contributing back.
That’s my current state as well: if I kill myself just like that, the ones in power won. So I’m not letting them win. Either by surviving or… your option.
To be totally honest: I like the current divided setup for the purely selfish reason of the men’s toilet being less occupied than the women’s toilet at most places with a lot of people.
But that would mean that in average it would be a net benefit to use non divided ones, since then the empty stalls would be used.
We laughed at the Republican party maybe 10 years ago, nowadays there are a lot of far right parties getting strong all over Europe =(
Nah, normally I agree with you but in this specific instance, unaliving is a good description for what happened.
What rebounding are you talking about? The Dow Jones is at a currently stable 10% lower than 1 last month. I don’t exactly see a rebound there, except the short high some high hours ago, which then decreased again.
You specifically mentioned the case of the app not having the consent of the restaurant.
How is it not fraud if I sell you a reservation when I’m not in contract with the restaurant owner and simply sell: nothing.
Because then I have a bridge to sell ;)
But then how is it not fraud and already illegal?
Yeah it contributes to the discussion with the simple solution on how not to be spied on by your TV, in an admittedly patronising way.
