That person is an idiot without any actual real world experience. Good on you for sharing useful information. I’ve had colleagues and employees like him lose their job before even being hooked up because of their shit attitude and my advice to folks boils down to the same. Be respectful, be transparent, even if embarrassing (there is nothing they haven’t heard before), and just give your “yes”, “no”. Best case you don’t see them again for 3-5 years, worst case it’s inconclusive and they will run it again a couple times and you will be more used to what’s expected. Go in with a shit attitude with your head up your ass and nobody is feeling bad that you pissed away a salary/job security perk and will never think about you again after a weeks time as they press on checking the box and taking care of themselves.

Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Lemmy.World Announcements@lemmy.world•Lemmy needs more donations189·2 months agoThis has to be a fucking joke. You say it can “actually exist in a totally functional apolitical way” while the two principle influencers of the platform “have bad political opinions.” You didn’t even bother to break up your ignorant defense of their abhorrent inhumane stance, that they are willing to publicly share, from your claim that the platform exists in an apolitical way with a paragraph break. Fuck these two jackasses, I pulled my recurring donation because this shit brought to light their abhorrent views, that again, are just the ones they are willing to admit publicly in a software development capacity. They should have focused on the product and kept their bullshit out of it, hopefully growing the fuck up along the way. I find it hilarious how many dipshits supporting these bigots are the same ones who would parrot garbage about abstaining to vote in US elections because “both sides” bs, the thing is, this platform has no meaningful consequence if it dies. The idea is out there now, it will get picked up by contributors who aren’t bigots or it won’t. No extra lives will be lost, ruined, or families destroyed if I’m unwilling to support these two bigots.

I know you can use VoIP or tether to a phone, but why don't laptops have LTE or 5G modules and SIM card slots as a standard?1·2 months agoI plug my phone into a DEX dock under my desk that connects to a 22” monitor and a normal keyboard and mouse. I think the other person was offering that type of solution already exists.

Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the smallest hill you would die on?42·2 months agoI don’t understand why this is such a big deal for anyone. With all the UI utilities available it would be incredibly easy to have a setting to interpret 5 consecutive spaces as a tab or a tab as 5 consecutive spaces and just let whoever prefers what to choose how they are going to interface with the code. Hell, you could even make it so 5 is the default and have custom consecutive values as an advanced option in the interpreter for edge cases. So many incredibly more challenging issues have been resolved in IDEs, I just don’t get it.

I think I got over $100 in my wallet more days of the year than not and I’m not into anything nefarious or even make much money, I just don’t use cash very often but often enough that having it available is handy. Theirs Girl Scouts, fire fighter donations at the grocery, neighborhood sports or band raffles, just random ass things that happen regular enough that having cash throughout the year makes it easier to feel part of the community.

I’m not sure of a practical solution but I’ve had rough 5-10 year stretches in my life and they are traumatic. No amount of ‘damages’ fixes that or makes someone whole. Sometimes I wonder if people really know what it’s like to be locked up for 5-10+ years when they go off about a sentence being too short. Life without parole is a death sentence just the same as the chair is.
Waraugh@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Mangione attorneys ask judge to stop federal prosecutors from seeking death penalty: "A political stunt"2·3 months agoI think it’s unethical to force someone to be locked up in prison for the rest of their life without 100% certainty also.

I understand the bitching and they are certainly stupid. I get defensive about it a bit because not everybody has the head on their shoulders to separate things, read the online discourse, and screw themselves over. Everyone knows it’s stupid, just play the damn game. I don’t want some junior inexperienced person setup for failure because they got themselves a hot head is all. Appreciate the clarification.
