Drive it like you stole it. You’re gonna do poorly for a long time until you get your head wrapped around it, so just be curious and see if that thing DOES kill you. Then you know to avoid it. There are some good tutorials on YT that can help. Might be a bit dated, but should get you a decent start. Good luck!

TheMadIrishman@sh.itjust.worksto Games@lemmy.world•Really enjoying my first playthrough of Dwarf FortressEnglish22·1 year agoVampires are wild. I caught the one I had, and he admitted it, and also admitted he was here under a false name. He got exiled from another dwarf civilization for embezzlement. My dwarves apparently didn’t care. After he was punished, they elected him mayor. :D
I am very bad at the randomizers, but that doesn’t stop me from playing them anyway. :)
Link to the Past. Partially the nostalgia hit, but even going back and playing it today just feels good IMO.
TheMadIrishman@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst way you ever broke production?English8·1 year agoWas troubleshooting a failed drive in a raid array on a small business DC/File Serv/Print/Everything else box. Replaced drive still showed failed. Moved to another bay thinking it was the slot not the drive. Accidentally hit yes when asked to initialize the array. Blew the whole thing away. It was an OLD server the customer was working on replacing, so I told them it finally gave up the ghost and I was taking it back to the office to keep working on it. I had been on the job for about 4 months and thought for SURE I was fired. Turns out we were already working on moving them to the cloud, so it ended up not being a big deal.
Nothing quite as permanent as a temporary fix!

But the lights inside the groups are all named like Bob, Karl, or Kathy or something. It works for me, but certainly isn’t for everyone. Lol

What advice would you older lemmy users give me?English22·1 year agoSee a primary doctor and a dentist at least once a year. Drink less booze and coffee, drink more water. Stretch and exercise when ya can. Everyone here pretty much nailed it. But, also, make sure you have a hobby. Something to keep the mind healthy too. I like putting together gunpla models. It’s relaxing and keeps my brain sharp (well, sharp is a strong word, but you get it). Finally, you’re gonna go to a lot more funerals than weddings now, so reach out to people you haven’t talked to in a while just to say what’s up.
TheMadIrishman@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you all have any tips on activities to do yourself, instead of consuming content all the time?English5·1 year agoI like building models. Gunpla or wargame minis currently, but I’ve also recently taken up 3d printing as a hobby. Not the cheapest hobbies unfortunately, but ones I enjoy.

That’s the Norse god of throughput.
I actually picked up a UNAS from Ubiquiti so I’m looking at drives myself. 4 and 8TB Ironwolf drives on Amazon seem decent, but I’m waiting for Monday to actually pull the trigger
