Am I missing context? What’s ‘thinners’? Is this a drug thing I’m too boring to understand?

I last looked at the docs a very long time ago, so its entirely possible it’s got some added functionality since.
SolOrion@sh.itjust.worksto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trying to wean off spotifyEnglish61·18 days agoJust make sure to use a trusted one, because you’ll most likely have login with your account to access your saved stuff & playlists.
I used SpotDL, personally. Not sure if it even supports logging in, but you can just make your playlists public for a few minutes while you download them. It does require you to do every playlist individually, afaik, there’s not just a ‘my whole account’ option. If you have youtube premium/youtube music you can DL high quality as well, though getting that to work was a bit tricky for me. I don’t generally mess with programs lacking a GUI, though, so it’s probably mostly a me issue.
SolOrion@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why can countries recognise both...17·26 days agoThe PRC has the political weight to make others pick a side, at least openly.
The DPRK, on the other hand, absolutely does not.
SolOrion@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Am I overreacting for wanting to quit driving altogether?21·26 days agoIt depends some on where you are.
Where I live, driving is absolutely a basic skill. It’s just not realistic to get anywhere via any other means in a reasonable timespan. So you either have to drive or be driven basically anywhere. The scale involved isn’t kind to biking, and public transportation is nonexistent. It would take hours to get a taxi that would be egregiously expensive, uber isn’t even an option last I heard.
And this is from the perspective of someone that hates driving- it stresses me out because of the exact reasons you’ve mentioned. I’m in charge of a ton or more of plastic and steel sometimes moving at 70mph, and ignoring the physics based implications, these things are fucking expensive.

I don’t know how welcoming general games would be to a complete beginner, though.

I just limit how much news I get- basically just what pops up in my lemmy feed and a news show I watch a few times a week.
Being exposed to awful headlines 24/7 is almost definitely going to be rough on your mental health.
SolOrion@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•"Can i ask you for a favor?" Is it rude to say no?13·1 month agoI don’t think you’re required to do it, personally, but I agree that it would be rude to not even hear someone out. Especially with someone you know even as an acquaintance. It could be anything from, “can you hold this for a second” to “do you mind splitting this $8000 timeshare with me?”
If it’s just a completely random person on the street, and their first word is “can you do me a favor” that’s different. I think it’s still rude, I just also think that when you engage with entirely random people being rude is acceptable sometimes. Especially if there’s an actual reason for you to feel unsafe- if you’re alone/it’s a shady area type thing.
This probably depends on the area, though. I’m from the southeastern US and from my understanding people engage with each other waaay more in public here than they do in- as a random example- New York.
TIL. Kinda cursed. Then again, lots of stuff about language is weird asf.

Frankly, I think it’s awful that she’s asking you to, but I imagine she’s going through some things herself at the moment.
I think you have the right take here already- your relationship with your dad wasn’t the one impacted.

Are there any topics I should avoid or considerations I should take into account when training them?1·1 month agoThe only one that confuses me is “they”, but it’s still refering to just one person. Luckily I don’t know anyone like that, because that one I’m sure I’d constantly accidently fuck up.
I ran into a person a long time ago on Lemmy that asked that people use ‘it/its’ as pronouns. Even for second person- so not they/them/you/yours, it/its. Absolutely broke my brain.
SolOrion@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people care so much that their friend or family member’s partner is attractive and not just loving?141·1 month agoIt’s not about being open and honest. It’s about that not being relevant. Your opinion on how someone looks isn’t relevant, helpful, or necessary unless it’s directly asked for.
There’s nothing awkward, nervous, or repressed about not going out of your way to open your mouth and make someone feel bad about themselves. You can simply not fucking say something that crosses your mind.
“Brutally honest” people are incredibly annoying. They think they’ve discovered a social cheat code so they can get away with being an absolute ass because they’re just an Honest Person™.
Crazy that they removed the screaming from subsequent editions of the Necronomicon. Nowadays it’s gone through so many revisions new copies don’t even bleed. Sometimes the modern special editions will whimper a bit, but that’s all you get.

I remember it happening a long time ago with my LG phone too, so I kinda just assumed it was difficult to estimate battery capacity once it got low.

It depends? Video can get across an explicit concept easier for me. If I’m learning something that I’ll struggle with, I find that video is usually a better bet for me.
For fiction, I prefer books because it can get a lot more across. It’s not even just that they cut corners or parts of a book, sometimes a book will have the protagonist basically run an internal monologue, or just notice something in a particular way that conveys a lot of information in a way that a movie or show can’t really do as seamlessly, if at all.
Video is better for showing details and small things, but I can fill in the blanks myself- I find it really frustrating when authors don’t let me fill in the blanks. I don’t need the entire feast described in depth to me, I don’t give a shit how the pig is coated in honey and the desserts look delicious unless the reveal is that the pig is poisoned and the desserts went bad last week.
The issue is that they’re almost certainly going to be cheap, and therefore companies are going to use them even if they’re complete dogshit.
But I think the bigger issue is saying “no ai” and then… using AI.
