  • The problem is that you don’t own the right to use your own device the way you see fit, and are instead locked into systems you can’t escape from.

You should be able to freely install the software you like, be that an OS, a third party app or even your own program, and you should be able to use all the features of your devices, freely, without being locked out due to the app or accessory not being first party.

  • the manufacturer of the chip making machine is based in the EU therefore no one can pull out

This has nothing to do with anything, really. It’s not like, because I don’t sell in the US I can’t use American made steel or something.

The actual reason why Apple, and every other company, doesn’t want to leave the EU (China for that matter) despite increasingly stringent regulations, it’s because the EU represents a huge portion of their revenue and leaving would mean losing billions upon billions, all in the hopes of saving millions.

  • Thing is, we don’t really know what’s the reason for the current worldwide trend in much, much lower natality rate. We’ve observed in rich countries and poor countries, religious and atheist countries, capitalist and communist countries (both USSR and PRC, who have had very different economic systems), in countries with no safety nets but also in countries with large social programs, in western countries, but also in eastern countries.

The only thing I can think of these days is education level. Is it possible that education is inversely correlated with natality rates? Or maybe women in the workforce. I’m not arguing for either point, I’m just thinking about what the cause of a world-wide issue might be, because it’s happening everywhere and seemingly without any clear common cause.

  • Here goes to hoping that EU massages Whatsapp third party compatibility actually works. It would be great if Signal decided to enter the program, so that I could start recommending it to friends and family as a full on replacement, while not losing the ability to communicate with those who use WhatsApp.

I understand Signal stance, but it would honestly be better to have a mainstream alternative to Whatsapp that actually cares about privacy, rather than a niche product nobody uses

  • If I were CEO, I’d cut/sell any part of the business that doesn’t directly support CPU and GPU sales, which is basically what Intel is doing.

That’s pretty much what they did. They sold off most of the “other” stuff, like their modem division, shut down their SSD division, sold part of Mobileye shares in the IPO, and reportedly Intel is looking to sell part of Altera, their FPGA division.
