From the Guardian article somebody else linked:
One of the most significant challenges that Pegasus presents to journalists and human rights defenders is the fact that the software exploits undiscovered vulnerabilities, meaning even the most security-conscious mobile phone user cannot prevent an attack.

I’m so happy I can be a part of this historical moment.

I don’t understand that rumor, a simple search on lemmy.ml/c/worldnews shows a lot of posts talking about the Uyghurs: https://lemmy.ml/search/q/Uyghurs/type/Posts/sort/New/listing_type/All/community_id/14788/creator_id/0/page/1
If they remove orientalist posts, that seems fair since the rules of the instances states that they don’t allow biggotery. I would rather have those removed so we can have more constructive discussions around articles about the same topic but written in good faith, nobody wants lemmy to turn into the same troll farm that was reddit.

They shouldn’t feel the need to present evidence against a claim that didn’t present any itself.

It was absolutely impossible to have a constructive conversation between two opposing beliefs on reddit partly because of that system, it was really infuriating. On the other hand, beehaw seems to outright block the instances where users don’t subscribe to their echo chamber, and I don’t think that’s good either.
You can do whatever you want with your life. If you’re not comfortable with going, then you shouldn’t go.
You should also ask yourself if you’ll be ok in the future with the idea that your and your brother’s opinion about a third person, who isn’t a part about either of your lives, is a valid ground for potentially breaking forever your relationship with your brother. Maybe simply avoiding this topic that creates tensions would be enough?
Neither of you is an asshole.
