I can only tell you about my experiences in the past, but I don’t think you have the job yet, you might have passed some initial round of interviews and be heading for the next one. From my experience there are usually 3 rounds of interviews:

The first round is HR, this serves to filter people who should not have applied for the job, although sometimes it filters good candidates and let’s bad ones get through in general it’s necessary in large companies that get hundreds of applicants. Sometimes in this round you’ll get multiple choice test or some technical questions that should be answerable by anyone applying for the job, things like difference between list and set, or what’s a pointer.

The second round is technical, you might get a take home and an interview asking you about it, or a meeting where you talk through the architecture for a system, or even just sitting in a room talking brain teasers or similar. This round is to check your technical knowledge, sometimes people are very good with the basic questions that HR asks, but fall apart the moment you ask them something that’s not in a “questions asked in interviews” list.

The third round is a culture fit, essentially you go to the office and talk to people about random stuff, have lunch with them, etc. Sometimes there might be some coding or some technical discussion but it’s more chill. Essentially they’re trying to see how it’s like working with you, if you get to this interview it means you’re essentially hired baring you being a complete asshole or similar. This interview is to prevent from hiring people who are very good technically but are a pain in the ass to work with and would drive the productivity down because no one would like being around them.

Now, that’s my experience with interviews, it doesn’t mean wherever you’re applying follows these, but I’ve seen lots of companies have similar stances, although some put at least 2 of those in a single day. The company I’m currently with had a 4th round, but that was a special case, it essentially was a “we want to make you an offer, but have several positions available, so talk to the managers of each of the teams you would be working and see which work interests you the most and we’ll make you an offer for that position”.

It’s round, mandarins are slightly squashed, it’s not a big difference if you’re not used to, but I love mandarins so I learnt to distinguish them at a glance to not buy the wrong thing just because it’s in the wrong section.

That reminds me of a few years back when Google removed it’s “Don’t be evil” slogan, someone commented that it was like the disturbed kid in class having a sign saying “Don’t kill everyone” quietly putting it away.

The joke even has another level, because that’s a picture of an Orange, not a Mandarin.

Not exactly only in my country, but I was talking to some people a while back and realized something, there’s a TV show that absolutely everyone in Spanish speaking countries (and Brazil) knows of, and has watched over and over again, it’s so ubiquitous to us that the closest comparison in terms of how known it is that I can think of would be The Simpsons. However the show never broke the language barrier (except, like I mentioned, to Brazil where it was translated to Portuguese). So imagine going somewhere and realizing you can’t make Simpsons references because these people have never heard of the Simpsons. By this point I think every Spanish speaking person knows what show I’m talking about, but for non-spanish speaking people the name of the show is El Chavo del 8 (which translates to “The boy from the 8th” as in the boy that lives on number 8, the implicit joke is that he’s so poor he doesn’t even have a name, which sort of got ruined by translation because in Brazil he’s named Chaves)

Let’s have a hypothetical scenario, imagine there was a machine that could be used to murder people easily, even if that wasn’t their main purpose anyone could use it in a fit of rage to kill someone, in fact anyone could kill someone by accident with this machine. You would want this machine to be regulated, have people evaluated psychologically, and have them take classes and perform an exam to ensure they won’t kill anyone by accident.

There’s a midterm that most of the world has already reached, where we require people to go through some process to prove they can operate the death machine safely.

I never said they were good, and you didn’t complain about them being bad, you complained about killing the franchise, and whether a franchise is dead or alive IS measured by popularity.

Oh yeah, they absolutely killed Fallout, the first game released by Bethesda (Fallout 3) was such a franchise killer that only sold 20 times more than the original game, and their latest game fiasco only doubled that. And let’s not talk about that fiasco of a TV show, that couldn’t even make it to most watched on Amazon, had to settle for the 2nd most watched show on Amazon, with only 4 times more viewers than Fallout 4 sold copies… In short, yeah, the new direction is such a fiasco that only managed to bring 165 new customers for every 1 that the original had.

I’ve lived in different places here, currently I have a couple of options in a 400m radius, in my previous house I used to have two options in a 100m radius. Before that I lived in another country and had a small market at around 600m and the nearest supermarket was at 1.5km, I almost never went to the big one and instead had them deliver to my house, but it wasn’t a chore going there, it was just boring and a waste of time when I could just order online.

A few years back I used to live in a small city and my options were 1km for a small market or 3km for a big one, you sort of get used to going the 3km to the big one when needed, but it’s not fun, and I would consistently put out going to the big one until it was absolutely necessary. I believe 3km is bike distance, sure you can walk that much, it’s not that far away, but it takes a long time and is exhausting carrying lots of groceries in summer for that long.

All of that being said, I was not born in Europe, so locals might have different opinions, although I think everyone I’ve talked to thinks that above 1km it becomes bike/scooter distance for routine things (you don’t need a bike if you’re going to the cinema at 1km, but grocery or other routine stuff it’s worth the investment just on the time you’ll save)

Yes, you shouldn’t drink hot water from the tap. I have a water dispenser, as in an equipment where you put a 20L mineral water bottle and you can pour either cold or hot water.

I don’t, my water dispenser has a tap for hot water. If I’m out of water in the dispenser I usually boil it in a pan. That being said heating water in the microwave is not an issue for me, as long as it’s just the water before adding the tea.

What problem are you having? Docker is very straightforward, just copy the compose file and run a command.

Here’s my weird perspective on it, first of all it’s not a word in my vocabulary, so I wouldn’t say it anyways, and I don’t normally listen to rap/hip-hop or other styles that use the word, so accidentally singing it also isn’t a problem for me. But I think the most important point for me is that I’m not from the USA, and besides some random movie I have never ever heard the word being used in a racist manner, so to me it doesn’t carry the same weight as it does for people who have suffered it directly.

Personally I think it’s all related to the fact that a black saying that word implicitly has no racist connotations, whereas with non-black you can’t be sure. That being said, while I understand wanting to conquer the oppressiveness of it by incorporating it into your slang, if you prevent others from using it in the same way, the oppressiveness is still there and you haven’t removed power from the word. Think on how Gay used to be offensive, and things like the Gay Pride and similar reclaimed the word, to the point where even if heterosexual people use it nowadays it’s not necessarily offensive.

That being said, like I mentioned at the start, I don’t live in a place where people use that word, nor am I black, so I can’t possibly understand what hearing that means to someone who’s actually heard it as an insult, so me saying they should be more open with non-blacks using it in a non-offensive manner as a way to diminish the power of that word in the asshole mouths might feel insensitive. And at the end of the day I don’t care because it’s not in my vocabulary so I wouldn’t use it even if blacks were okay with me using it.

Yes, from some experience even on those fields you sort of need to proof that you tried to find someone in your own country and couldn’t find one.

No they didn’t, they just force age verification, which is also common in the USA. So you have the exact same “problem” there, but are missing the free healthcare, and other benefits from the UK in relation to the USA.

Yeah, Australia is weird, they also banned several games and similar stuff because they have a government that’s very focused on moral problems, much like the right wing in the USA, so I don’t think it will be long before the USA goes down this same rabbit hole of “won’t somebody please think of the children” and bans the same things.

Canada, which is just America but cold and sky high housing costs?

I don’t even know how to reply to this, the fact that you think that a country that consistently picks the complete opposite policies from the USA is the same means you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. It’s like if someone told you they don’t want to stop eating deep fried chicken because salad is just the same thing except cold and more expensive.

No you don’t, you need a visa to be able to work here, depending on your area of expertise companies might sponsor your visa.

I have Jellyfin running for years too and it has never broken for me, I use Linuxserver image, so maybe they delay the updates a bit?.. Now, Immich has broken so many times that nowadays is the only docker I don’t keep at latest (and I know using latest is a bad practice, I understand the reasons, but the convenience of not worrying about the versions beats all that for me)

I’ve lived in multiple places, so I’ll talk about all of them.

Brazil

I lived in two places there, essentially you can choose between public or private systems.

Under the private system you would book an appointment with whatever doctor you wanted, usually one or two weeks in advance, pay them (which is relatively expensive depending on the doctor), have the consultation, they might ask for some exams (some of which are paid, others included), possibly get a prescription (that you would have to pay for yourself), possibly go back for a follow up appointment (included in the price you already paid).

On the public system you book an appointment, wait some time (months in some places, days in others), have your consultation (if the doctor is in that day), possibly get a prescription (that you would likely get for free), possibly go back for a follow up appointment.

Ireland

There’s a public system, but you have to be below a certain income level to use it, otherwise you have to go through the private system. You have to register with your GP (most of which don’t have available spots), for anything you first need to contact your GP (which usually takes a week), and pay €60, explain your problem and if they choose to forward you to and specialist (even if you go and say I need to see a cardiologist they might say “no, you do not”, although that’s unlikely), then they send an email to the specialist who only then accepts that you book with them (usually for a week or so later), then you have to pay the specialist (which is usually >€300), they might ask for some exams (which you have to book and pay on your own, some blood work I did was €700), they might give you a prescription (which is paid but there’s a €80 cap on medicine per house per month, which is the only nice part of the whole system), and if you need a follow up it’s usually €150. If you have health insurance (or at least mine was like this) they give you back 50% of all your expenses up to a certain limit.

Spain

I’m not too familiar with the options here because I have private insurance through my work and as you’ll see I’ve had no reason to look elsewhere, but I’ve been told the public system is fairly similar. Whenever I need an appointment I open my insurance app or call a doctor office and ask if they take my insurance, book an appointment (usually for a week or two in advance), go there, show my id and insurance card, go to the appointment, if they ask for some exams I do them, if they give me a prescription I take it to a pharmacy and pay it out of pocket (this is the only part I know public system exists and is somewhat better because you get the drugs for free, but since I don’t take any recurring prescriptions I haven’t bothered to check), if I need a follow up I book it and go back. Never had to pay one cent for anything other than medicine. I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop and getting billed for all of the Dr appointments, but so far it hasn’t happened hahaha
