We had an Apple II gs at home and used PET computers in school. I remember loading Artillery into the computer from a cassette.

After that don’t engage with him on politics. Maybe don’t engage at all. Show up for birthdays and maybe a holiday or two. Do the ‘quiet quitting’ of family interaction. You aren’t going to change their mind. I’ve been trying for 20+ years and it’s just gotten worse.

HessiaNerd@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•California to require insurers to offer policies in fire-prone areas1·6 months agoFires will happen, yes, they happen in cities too. San Bruno for example (hey that was PG&E too).
As long as you take the proper precautions (defensable space), fire retardant building materials, etc, the increased risks of living in a wooded area isn’t that great. Certainly not as great as is reflected in the rate increases.
HessiaNerd@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•California to require insurers to offer policies in fire-prone areas4·6 months agoCurrent firefighting techniques allow fires to take their course in unpopulated areas. Since we are a fire safe community we all have defencable space. The son of the folks at the top of the hill is a wildfire fighter. We know the risks and minimize them. Hell a couple of Teslas burned up and the fire was contained. Due to their batteries it probably took longer to put out than anything that grows around here.
You pretend like insurance companies know best, and ‘market forces’ are these perfect righting forces. I call bullshit.
HessiaNerd@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•California to require insurers to offer policies in fire-prone areas152·6 months agoI live in a ‘high risk area’ e.g. not a paved hellscape. We are a fire safe community.
https://cafiresafecouncil.org/resources/map-of-fire-safe-councils/My father built the house in 1981. Everyone in the community has been paying insurance premiums for 40 fucking years and because PG&E didn’t do necessary maintenance on their lines in paradise, the insurance companies have been pulling out.

Entering the country without documentation is a misdemeanor. When people are fleeing political persecution they can’t get the appropriate paperwork.
A lot (not all) of these people come in and turn themselves in. The policy is (was?) recognize that minor documentation issue and let them stay while it gets resolved. In that manner yes they were accepted, if only temporarily, while their documentation problems are resolved.
Lol, I remember setting those jumpers.
This was 100% a parody. Really impressive but definitely a joke.

Those parts don’t meet specs (‘broken’ in this article) and they use them anyway.
It’s no wonder their planes keep crashing. The FAA needs to shut them down. I doubt that will happen in this administrative climate though. More people WILL die due to corporate greed, just another example.

Yeah, that makes sense.
I feel old when I think of all the steps we had to take to start the most basic game. Rewind tape. Hit reset on the counter. Find index of program you want and fast forward to that position. Enter load command. Play on tape. Wait. By the time it was loaded and we started recess was over.
