BitsAndBites@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How has standing or standing-sitting vs sitting while working affected your life?4·2 months agoSitting for so many hours daily was terrible for my back. Switched to a desk that raises and a walking treadmill under. Been doing that for over 10 years now. I will usually start the day walking (1.3 MPH is my sweet spot) stand for meetings ( since my treadmill is too noisy after all these yeara), and sit a bit towards the end of the day.
Does the work item describe this technical cleanup? No? PR rejected for including out of scope work.

Yep, ads masquerading as comments. It’s awful. I’m so glad I moved to Lemmy.

BitsAndBites@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your best tips for falling asleep?4·8 months agoOn the worrying point. If you find yourself worrying that you can’t fall asleep, remind yourself that just laying there is giving yourself a chance to slowdown and relax. Giving yourself permission to relax is the first step to letting go of the worry.

BitsAndBites@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•After a particularly annoying update today4·1 year agoExactly. After reading through some forums it sounds like BitLocker may have been enabled at the factory initially but I had never noticed and since I didn’t set it up myself I had no key. So anyone reading this and running windows: right click your C: drive and see if BitLocker is enabled. If it’s enabled and you didn’t enable it or don’t have the key then disable the encryption. You can re-enable it afterwords and safely backup your new key so you never find yourself in this situation.

BitsAndBites@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•what is the most stable standing desk?English7·2 years agoI love my standing/sitting desk. I use an uplift from thehumansolution. I’ve been using it for about 8 years now. I bought one of their frames only and removed the desktop from my old desk to mount on top. I’m not sure if they sell just the base anymore, but I see they have a lot of options. I also use a lifespan brand walking treadmill under mine that I’ve been using just as long. I highly recommend both. It has done wonders for my back issues that kept getting worse after prolonged sitting.
It is not wobbly, and I have my entire desktop and triple monitors with heavyduty tri-monitor base on top of it.

BitsAndBites@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you fight the temptation to not look at your phone or other electronic devices after going to bed?6·2 years agoYes, the no phone in bed rule is a good one. I also try not to look at my phone first thing in the morning aside from turning off my alarm. Then I get up and start my day before checking the phone. Don’t let your phone dictate your day, start it yourself with intention first.
This response resonates to me. I would also add that after working all day looking at a computer screen and my mind is tired I like to enjoy other activities away from a screen. If I do look at a screen in the evenings, many times I dont want to think about a game or have to make choices for a game character. The times I really enjoy games are on the weekends. I imagine one day being an old man and getting to play video games all day again like I did when I was a child.
