I feel like this is just the state of America now. When everyone was freaking out that this was the downfall of the election yadda yadda… I was just thinking to myself “this is the country where kids get slaughtered in school and we’re sad for like 2 days… I give this a week at most”

Then I was driving with a friend who used it and it served an ad saying “click here to take a pit stop at McDonald!”
I never downloaded Waze so… good luck google.
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@lemmy.world•European Union regulators accuse Apple of breaching the bloc's tech rulesEnglish51·1 year agoSo I’m a die hard apple boi as well, but I’ve been getting into Linux a bit lately (to replace my windows machine that was solely for gaming)
I think the main reason I still stick with Apple over Linux for most things is that Linux requires more tinkering.
Every time I wanna play a new game I need to try out different versions of protons until it works. When I need a new software, I have to go google if I CAN have it, how to get it, or to find out what exact version I should use for my distribution, etc.
Linux, as impressed with it as I am so far, is like having an old classic car I’m fixing up. It’s a hobby. I need to dedicate time to learning, maintaining, and optimizing my experience. So it’s great for my hobby of gaming!
My Mac just works when I need it to work, no tinkering, no second thoughts. It’s the boring but reliable modern car I take on long trips. I just use computer, get work done, without roadblocks I have to google derailing me every 10 mins.
I’m all for Linux, I’ve very much enjoyed it so far and will continue learning, but as a “normie” using Linux, the simplicity of Mac is often missed.

Also everyone say ty everyday for your ability to block people! It’s incredibly useful!

They turn off on their own, so if you forget about them, it runs its 20 mins or whatever then turns off.
My oven is on for the weekend if I fuck up haha.

BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11 just isn't enticing Windows 10 users to upgrade, and its market share is actually fallingEnglish5·1 year agoThank you for mentioning hots, because that’s like the ONE steam game I couldn’t live without. Good to know it’s possible, even if I have to play true full screen vs windowed.
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 10 reaches 70% market share as Windows 11 keeps decliningEnglish3·1 year agoI just got a steam deck, and needed to install FF14 (non steam) so I was mucking around in desktop mode… yeah. I’ll prob be getting a spare drive for my tower now to try out Linux. I’d love nothing more then to cut ties to windows.

Why can I only use one emote? Why can I sometimes see a message on my phone but not on the computer? Why is there an “old” and a “new” teams app? Why does each one constantly ask me to use the other one? Why are there god damn Mabalene video filters, but yet my god damn calendar won’t sync properly with outlook. Why when I update my picture, does 1/3 of my team see the new one, 1/3 sees the old one, and 1/3 just sees my initials. I’d continue but my thumbs are tired.
Teams actively makes communicating with my team more difficult and I hope it dies so soon.
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft unbundles Office and Teams globally in new attempt to appease antitrust regulatorsEnglish31·1 year agoAre you aware that slack has a back button? Makes getting back to that original channel a breeze. Even works with thumb buttons on my mouse like pretty much every browser.
Or ctrl + k and you can just type part of the channel name/person name etc to quickly go back to it.
Also just a emote to acknowledge a message without spinning up a thread is my go to. Just a 👍”yep I see this”

I can’t even count the amount of bugs my team found, documented, and raised a hell of a stink about, that still went live.
Major bugs like that in live are not due to QA missing them. It’s due to the rediculous pace ATVI makes the team put out content. Doesn’t matter if QA reports something, if the devs are not given the time needed to fix it.
GOTTA GET THAT NEW BATTLEPASS OUT!!!
BReel@lemmy.oneto Games@lemmy.world•Activision/Blizzard QA workers form the largest US video game union yetEnglish3·1 year agoI’m super happy to see this. Just a few years ago, I was working as QA in a studio adjacent to this group. (We had our own QA, but worked alongside the activision group) and god they needed to do this.
So happy to see them fighting back. I hope the rest of the employees who don’t get fucked QUITE as hard as QA join too.

There are so many tools to encrypt, secure, remote access, manage, etc, that it’s no problem at all. And most are tools these companies are using anyways, in office.
Both companies actually got MORE productive with work from home. My old company is forcing people back to office, but my new one isn’t. I wonder if it has anything to do with that big office building they just bought…

And like. Context as well. yes it is a diff conversation if they worked 45 years min wage vs 45 years as a mega corp ceo lol. It def is a valid question for someone to understand the conversation that’s happening.
No ones being hostile by trying to get context to continue the conversation that was totally friendly until they got butthurt for some weird reason.

They’re just gonna use the default app 99%
BReel@lemmy.oneto Technology@lemmy.world•Apple is officially dropping iPhone support for web apps in the EU - The VergeEnglish61·1 year agoMy dads iPhone 8 is finally starting to lose some of its battery life. But it’s overall performance is totally fine.
I think a lot of people forget that most humans doesn’t need 100000000000gb of ram and 20trillion gbs of storage.
I’m using 65gb of storage, including the os… on my baseline 128gb model.
Most people aren’t editing 8k videos on their iPhones lol. They’re sending a text message.
I was someone who always knew about ad blockers, but just wasn’t bothered enough to use them.
I used YouTube SO much that it was worth it to me to have premium.
After all the bitching and moaning from YouTube last year, I un subbed, downloaded free tube instead, and also finally added an ad blocker to both my mobile and desktop browser.
I imagine I’m not the only one with that story haha.
BReel@lemmy.oneto News@lemmy.world•Another trans candidate in Ohio faces disqualification vote for omitting deadname7·2 years agoIt’s nearly impossible to follow the rules when they are specifically being hidden. No one can keep track of every single rule off the top of their head. That’s why we have things like speed limit signs or no parking signs. Hours of operation for a business clearly posted. Etc.
This law is the equivalent of a road going from 55mph to 35mph, but never telling you with a speed limit sign. Then you get pulled over for speeding because the cop knows it’s 35, but fuck you, go to jail, because you expected there to be a speed limit sign when the speed changed, you know. Like on every other road ever.
The fact that there are 33 pages of outlined rules for this when applying says they intentionally put those rules together so people would follow them. It’s not fair for me to know some obscure rule is missing from the 33 pages of rules specifically supplied for me to follow. That is called deception.
They set an expectation by supplying 33 pages of rules. “Here are all the rules” by leaving one out, you’re intentionally trying to fuck people up with it.
Then there being no place to even put a previous name on the form is just fuckery on top.
“Sorry you wrote you previous name on a part of the paper that wasn’t designated for that, so now we have to disqualify you for following the law. Sorry, it’s just the law /shrug”
I’m stoked about Deadlock. I used to play Super Monday Night Combat constantly, until it shut down.
I’ve been waiting like 10 years to get a decent game that fills that void, and Deadlock seems to finally be it! I personally couldn’t be happier with their choice hah.
