It’s always been bare bones, now it’s just basically nothing. It’s the same for any healthcare.
Unless it’s an undeniable visible emergency, just don’t worry about. Once it’s an emergency, send them to the ER, most likely they’ll be sedated and held for a few days then released back onto the street with no further help. At best, they’ll be assigned a case worker who is told to figure it out. Then the cycle repeats again.
Contact other services nonstop for help that doesn’t exist anymore, be ignored until it’s an emergency, back to the ER, repeat. It’s so fucking frustrating.
And since you’re just sending emergencies to the ER for very expensive visits and further overwhelming the already overburdened healthcare system, the GOP uses the expensive Medicaid payouts as examples of why publicly funded healthcare is so unsustainable…
Not always. There used to be tons of asylums and such before Reagan fucked things up. He dismantled the systems in place on the grounds that they were shitty.
While he was right, he did nothing to replace them. That meant that people who needed help ended up on the streets with nowhere left to turn except self medication with drugs and alcohol.
